Some interesting education related websites

I would like to take the time to share with you, some of the educational web sites that I have found and they seem to be useful. Most of them are english teaching tools, but there are some that can be used to teach other topics.

Of course there are many more, but these are the ones I wanted to show you today, I will keep posting more pages that are interesting teaching tools, if you have any suggestions, comments or questions feel free to communicate with me.

Teacher's day

Teacher's day is coming!

And even though I am not going to share this celebration with my students it is a good ocassion to remember why this is one of the most noble careers in the world.

...And to inspire you a little I picked out some quotes for this day, enjoy:

  • "Teaching is not a lost art, but the regard for it is a lost tradition." - Jacques Barzun
  • "Good teachers are costly, but bad teachers cost more." - Bob Talbert
  •
  • "What the teacher is, is more important than what he teaches." - Karl Menninger
  •
  • "Those who educate children well are more to be honored than parents, for these only gave life, those the art of living well." - Aristotle
  •
  • "Better than a thousand days of diligent study is one day with a great teacher." -Japanese proverb

Second day

It is the second official day of vacations, I miss them, believe it or not they are by far they people who make me laugh the most. I sincerely hope my students are not forgetting things they have learned so far. It is actually kind of difficult to get to the point where I am sure they learned something and they will not forget it, because, as we know, if we do not use something, or if we do not practice it enough, we end up forgetting it, however I strongly believe that in the elementary stage the content is important, but not as important as the skills that we develope with all the activities, that's why it is important to change activities, to keep their brains activie, but also to have a process and go over some activies that have proven worthy of our time investment. And just to make sure you believe me that it is more important to work on skills than in knowledge transmition I will show you a quote by Albert Einstein: "The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination."

And I also want to share with you this page I found with some interesting information about knwoledge management which I think goes father than just giving them the information.

Vacations!!!

Not much to report during the next two weeks, because the studens and teachers are now having their well deserved break.

I really hope they dont forget everything we have been working on in the classroom, anyway we will have a review week as soon as they come back, because I really consider it necesary during this stages of their learning.

Father's day project

During last Thursday 14th my students and I did an origami neck tie as a card for father's day, they were so happy and excited about it.
Although this wasn't a new experience because we also did an origami heart for mother's day. This time the challenge was bigger but they didn't disappoint me, and everyone was able to finish the project.
I hope all fathers like their ties! :)
the instructions for the hearts and ties were extracted from and ipad app, but you can search for them in the internet and get the same results.
With this activitie I involved my students in the process of following instructions, listening, fine motricity movements, creativity, listening of english, asking questions, ordered participation, among other avilities.

This a very helpful video, just in case you want to try to do one yourselves. ;)

Welcome

Welcome to my blog, here I will be posting about activities, development and performance of my students in third A in BVH school.

Hopefully during the making and sharing of this blog you will be able to see the evolution and improvement they have.

I have learned so much about them, and the whole idea of this blog is to allow you to experience with me the joy of having all this amazing kids as a responsability. They are so creative, smart and full of energy, each one is a new world and they all have amazed me in many different way.

I also intend to have a chronological record as evidence of the different steps I'm taking to teach them all they will need next year and also during their life.

Feel free to send me any comments, suggestions or question, I'm open to new ideas or comments oriented to help us.
